Pirates Trade Gerrit Cole To The Astros

11 January 2018

The Yankees miss out on righthander Gerrit Cole.

Per Yahoo Sports' Jeff Passan, there is "no deal" in place for Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Gerrit Cole to be traded to the Houston Astros.

The Yankees had been in trade talks with the Pirates about Cole for several weeks.

Cole will join the top of the rotation with Justin Verlander and Dallas Keuchel, along with Lance McCullers Jr., Charlie Morton and Brad Peacock as options.

Britain to Impose Tax on Disposable Cups
At least 2.5 billion disposable cups are thrown away every year. "Almost none are recycled and half a million a day are littered. There is no United Kingdom or European market for contaminated paper food packaging, says the Environmental Audit Committee.

Cole has a 59-42 record and career 3.50 ERA with the Pirates, and has recorded 734 strikeouts.

Cole was drafted as the first overall selection by the Pirates in the 2011 Major League Baseball draft. He is only two seasons removed from a 19-8, 2.60 campaign in 2015, and he's still just 27, so he's an excellent bounceback candidate for 2018.

The teams have not announced the deal, and Cole has reportedly yet to be informed of the trade, so there is still a lot to get done.

The Yankees' rotation now includes Luis Severino, Masahiro Tanaka, Sonny Gray and CC Sabathia.
