Man accused of sexually assaulting sleeping woman on Spirit Airlines flight

05 January 2018

The 22-year-old was in the window seat, while Prabhu Ramamoorthy, an Indian national living in the U.S. on a temporary visa, was in the middle seat with his wife in the aisle seat.

According to a federal complaint obtained by the Press, the woman claims she woke up as Ramamoorthy was putting his "fingers in her (genitals) and vigorously moving them", and that he stopped once she was awake.

The woman told flight attendants, who said she appeared "visibly upset" while trying to explain what happened, according to the complaint. She says her trousers and shirt were unbuttoned.

The flight was on Spirit Airlines, travelling overnight and arriving in Detroit on Wednesday morning from Las Vegas.

The woman was sitting in a window seat, with Ramamoorthy next to her.

Apartment catches fire in NY ; at least 12 hurt
NY mayor Bill de Blasio described the incident as "the worst fire tragedy we have seen in this city in a quarter century". At least 23 people are injured in a fire that breaks out in a building in the Bronx, New York City, on January 2, 2018 .

Furthermore, in October 2013, an enjoying some downtime Delta Connection pilot situated in Detroit was blamed for stroking a 14-year-old young lady on a flight from Detroit Metro Airport to Salt Lake City. While the onboard crew was talking to the woman, Ramamoorthy's wife came to the back to see what was going on, Jawad said.

According to a written statement by Prabhu, he had taken a pill ("plain Tylenol") and fallen into deep sleep. In the statement, he also added that he hadn't done anything apart from learning from his wife that the 22-year-old woman was sleeping on his knees. They also noticed her trousers were unbuttoned.

But flight attendants told investigators that only the alleged victim had asked for her seat to be changed. The magistrate found the case "very unusual" and ordered Ramamoorthy to be held after Jawad argued the assaulter posed a potential danger to people around him.

Ramamoorthy has been working as a project manager at a technology group for about two and a half years. "There have been no allegations from anywhere that his behavior has ever been inappropriate prior to this incident".

A representative for Spirit Airlines has stated that the company is cooperating with authorities.
