United States envoy calls for emergency United Nations session on Iran

03 January 2018

The US envoy to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, has distanced the Trump administration from proposed contacts between North and South Korea, saying it would not take any talks seriously if Pyongyang did not abandon its nuclear arsenal.

"As to President Trump and all those who love freedom, we should speak loudly in support of the Iranian people and punish their oppressors to the fullest extent possible", Graham said. "All freedom-loving people must stand with their cause", she said.

"Right now we're going to have conversations with the Security Council and see what we need to do to have an emergency session", Haley added about Iran.

After she read out social media posts written by Iranians in support of the protests, Haley dismissed Iranian leaders' contention that the protests were designed by Iran's enemies. "The freedoms that are enshrined in the United Nations charter are under attack in Iran", she said. "Dozens have already been killed. We all know that's complete nonsense", Haley said.

"We expect far more cooperation from Pakistan in the fight against terrorism", she said. "We don't think we need a Band-Aid, and we don't think we need to smile and take a picture".

The team's 12 losses this season are their most since 2011, but the Colts haven't been a viable AFC contender in years. From 2012-17, Pagano's unit ranked above 19th in total defense (11th in 2014) and points allowed (9th in 2013) once.

"We consider this to be a very reckless regime", the United States envoy said. "To that end, tomorrow night we are having a reception for the countries who chose not to oppose the USA position", Haley said.

"What made you believe that you are on the right side of history?" the reporter asked.

She added that the Trump administration wants to advance the peace process but the Palestinians have to "show the world that they want to come to the table".

North Korea, which regularly threatens to destroy the United States, South Korea and Japan, tested its most powerful intercontinental ballistic missile in November, which it said was capable of delivering a warhead to anywhere in the United States.

"But in pursuing those things, Moon can not succumb to North Korean nuclear blackmail to weaken the South's military alliance with the United States - in the very same New Year's speech, Kim claimed to be able to hit the U.S. with a nuclear weapon".
