There were reports doing the rounds that the board had suggested 26 cuts to the film, but in a statement, Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chairman Prasoon Joshi clarified that they have only advised five modifications, including the title change, but "no cuts".
Other key modifications suggested include disclaimers, particularly one regarding not glorifying the practice of sati and changes to the song "Ghoomar" to befit the character portrayed.
The film stars popular actress Deepika Padukone, who was the target of Rajput groups who were against its release.

Longtime Atlanta news anchor Amanda Davis dies after suffering stroke
Amanda Davis , a good friend who made it through bad times, rebuilt her life and career with a determination I've never seen. In Davis' last tweet on December 20, she thanked her friend Debbie Turman for sending flowers after the death of her father.
Rajput fronts like Shri Rajput Karni Sena and Rajput Sabha, who were opposed to the release of the film, are likely to plan their strategy soon.
Commenting on the three-member panel that reviewed the film, he said, "The royal being referred to in today's news as part of the panel that reviewed the film was not the head of the family, Maharana Mahendra Singhji Mewar, or me". Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi from this pressure spoke to the media and said if Padmavat releases in theatres, the men belonging to Sri Rajput Karna Sena will vandalize each and every cinema hall showing the flick.
Vishvaraj Singh had written to PM Modi, CM Vasundhara Raje, Censor Board, State Administration, Minister Smriti Irani, Prakash Javdekar and Rajyaverdhan Singh Rathore appealing to ban Padmavati. "Just that whisky will be called "whiska", vodka will be called "vodki" and so on", Sinha tweeted. They want the name of the film to be changed. That shows the CBFC went out of its way to help the filmmaker.
"Disgusted by the open and blatant use of political muscle to screw filmmakers during elections. Now that Gujarat and Himachal are won, "Padmavati" has got its U/A, it will be praised..." We will continue our movement (against the film). "Can you imagine what title CBFC would suggest", he tweeted.
Despite Bhansali claiming that no historical facts have been tampered with, the hue and cry around the film did not mitigate.
