Final season of 'House of Cards' to return without Kevin Spacey

Media Rights Capital, the studio behind "House of Cards", suspended Spacey shortly after Rapp came forward, and Netflix said it would not be involved with any further production involving Spacey.

The show had just started filming of season six when the allegations first surfaced, but Netflix made a decision to shutdown the set.

Actor Anthony Rapp feels "gratified" by the response he has received after coming forward with sexual misconduct allegations against Kevin Spacey.

Monday's update - wildly speculated - follows the streaming giant's November 3 decision to sever ties with Spacey following mounting allegations of sexual harassment against the actor.

Netflix has announced production on the sixth season of House of Cards will resume early next year - without Kevin Spacey.

Variety magazine reported last month that one suggested plan was to kill off Spacey's character and focus on Wright's Claire Underwood as a way to salvage season 6.

Last week MRC producers had informed "House of Cards" cast and crew that the hiatus on season 6 would be extended through December 8 and that the crew will continue to be paid during the break. How will they write Spacey out of the script but keep the storyline going?

The final season was originally billed as 13 episodes, with production already having been completed on the initial two at the time Spacey's scandal ignited.

Writing Spacey out of House of Cards isn't a stretch.

In response to the story, Spacey issued a statement claiming he did not recall the incident, but he apologized for what he said would have been "deeply inappropriate drunken behavior".

House of Cards was among Netflix's first original series to become a breakout hit, earning a large following of fans along with critical acclaim after the first season of the David Fincher-produced political thriller debuted in 2013. In its first five seasons, it nabbed 46 Emmy nominations and six wins.

Additionally, director Ridley Scott also removed the actor from his upcoming film "All the Money in the World", with Christopher Plummer.
