The post-play blow Rob Gronkowski applied to Tre'Davious White's head during Sunday's game resulted in the National Football League suspending the All-Pro tight end for one game.
Gronkowski will be eligible to return to the Patriots' active roster on Tuesday, December 12 following the team's December 11 Monday night game against the Miami Dolphins.
"Your actions were not incidental, could have been avoided and placed the opposing player at risk of serious injury", National Football League vice president Jon Runyan said in a letter to Gronkowski.
After the conclusion of New England's 23-3 win, Bill Belichick met Sean McDermott at midfield and apologized for the hit. "The Competition Committee has clearly expressed its goal of 'eliminating flagrant hits that have no place in our game.' Those hits include the play you were involved in yesterday". Acting out of frustration, Gronkowski dove onto White.
To earn his maximum salary for 2017, Gronkowski would need to record 25 catches or 351 receiving yards over the final three weeks of the regular season - an average of 8.3 catches or 117 yards per game.Читайте также: LaVar Ball says he's pulling his son, LiAngelo, out of UCLA
In his postgame comments, Gronkowski apologized to White, but blamed his actions over frustration with officials both during the game and over the course of his career.
"I don't believe in shots like that", Gronkowski said. "It was a lot of frustration and I was just really frustrated at that moment and it just happened naturally through emotions and frustration". Gronkowski was penalized for unnecessary roughness and many called the play "dirty, " but he was not ejected.
"I understand, "Belichick said to McDermott".
Gronkowski became frustrated after it appeared he was held and pushed by a Buffalo player while attempting to catch a pass from Tom Brady. It was a couple times in the game, and they're calling me for the craziest stuff ever. And it's insane, like, what am I supposed to do? And then they don't call that? "It was just frustration, and that's what happened".При любом использовании материалов сайта и дочерних проектов, гиперссылка на обязательна.
