Phillip Fulmer Will Replace John Currie as Tennessee Athletic Director

02 Декабря 2017

What is old is new again in Knoxville.

A to Z Sports, a blog based in Nashville, Tenn., reported that Leach met Tennessee athletic director John Currie for lunch in Los Angeles on, a meeting that Bruce Feldman of FOX Sports said "went very well".

Chancellor Beverly Davenport announced the move Friday.

Davenport relieved Currie of his duties after only 10 months on the job. She says Fulmer will immediately take over the coaching search.

A familiar face will be taking over the Tennessee Volunteer Athletic Department. So I guess the rumors are that I'm a pretty decent coach.

Hamilton forced out Fulmer as football coach in 2008.

"Our football program has the history, the facilities, the tradition and the resources to play with anyone, anytime", Fulmer said Friday. "But the biggest thing is I'm focused on Washington State, excited about that and we're going to a great bowl and I for one couldn't be happier".

"I will not serve as interim coach", he said when asked if he would step in as a coach.

The Volunteers fired Butch Jones on November 12, the day after they lost 50-17 at Missouri to fall to 0-6 in the SEC.

Tennessee officials instructed Currie not to broker a deal with Leach or anybody else prior to returning to campus, according to ESPN.

On Tuesday, Mike Gundy turned down an offer.

Yes, this was reported by Jimmy Hyams, who inadvertently reported Jeff Brohm was a done deal as Butch Jones's replacement. "Currie was sacked Friday morning".

While not getting specific with candidates, Fulmer laid out his plan for Tennessee's next coach.

Ralph Russo, a prominent college football writer for the associated press finally made the statement all WVU fans wait for, whether they want to see it or they are scared to see it. It will take time.

"The kind of head coach who will honor our university's values, will be proud to represent our state and be a role model to our student-athletes". Especially with Tennessee being an SEC program. I'm working on more details.
