Shop local: Small Business Saturday is this weekend

Unless you're stuffed too full of turkey to think, many downtown and local businesses will offer some impressive discounts and deals not only on Black Friday, but also Small Business Saturday.

"It's important because the tax dollars stay within the county", said Matt Hazzard, executive director of the Cooperstown Chamber of Commerce. According to NRF's October 2017 holiday survey, a quarter of holiday shoppers are planning to do their holiday shopping at local and small businesses.

Meola noted that the number of participating businesses grows annually. It defines small businesses as those with fewer than 500 employees.

Paris Downtown Association and Paris Main Street have registered in the Neighborhood Champion program this year.

The chamber office, 7576 S. State St., will be open from 9 a.m.to 1 p.m.to serve as a welcome center for the event this Saturday, Nov. 25. "You know so we just work very closely with them".

Remember, small businesses are the backbone of our communities and help keep the pulse of our cities healthy.

Lori Fink, owner of the Tin Bin Alley on Main Street in Cooperstown, said she hopes to give customers extra incentive to support Small Business Saturday by offering discounts and deals.
