Hajin Gunfight: One IAF GARUD killed

Arguably, one of the biggest operations in recent past, the security forces launched the search operation in Chandergeer village in Hajin area after receiving an input from intelligence regarding the presence of militants in the area.

As the cordon around the hiding militants was tightened, they fired at the security forces, triggering a gunbattle in which one IAF Garud soldier was killed, while five terrorists were also neutralised, he said.

He said that along with Owaid, LeT commanders Zargam and Mehmood were also eliminated in the operation. However, the commando succumbed to injuries in the military hospital, the defence spokesman said, adding that the search operation in the area is still going on.

An Indian Air Force (IAF) commando was also martyred in the operation.

Another Army soldier got injured during the operation against the terrorists. A militant of Zakir Musa's group in Kashmir died from his wounds while a police man was killed in the fire fight and another was injured.

The officer who was killed was a commando of Indian Air Force elite's Special Forces unit Garud.

On October 11, 2017, two LeT terrorists - Ali Bhai of Pakistan and Nasrullah Mir of Hajin - got killed in an encounter at Paribal (Hajin). In 2007, Lakhvi's 20-year-old son Mohammad Qasim was killed in an encounter with the army and J&K police.
