Veggies Sold At Walmart, Trader Joe's Recalled For Possible Contamination

The company sent out a press release on October 19 saying that they have begun pulling some of its products, though no illnesses have been reported.

A list of products pulled from shelves in Walmart is listed below with brand names and UPC codes.

The products were distributed with the "best if used by" dates of October 11-20, according to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration report.

A major vegetable recall was issued across the country last week amid fears of bacterial contamination. According to the FDA, the recall is based on a single positive result of Listeria monocytogenes discovered by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

Among the biggest retail recalls, stemming from Mann Packing's, is Meijer's.

Consumers who have bought any of the recalled products should either discard them or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Brands include: Signature Farms products sold at Albertsons, Archer Farms sold at Target; kohlrabi salad blend sold at Trader Joe's, several varieties of broccoli and cauliflower sold at Walmart, and at least 30 Mann branded bags of veggies. Normal, healthy people usually suffer flu-like symptoms such as high fever, harsh headaches, nausea and diarrhea.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control estimated that 1,600 people develop a serious form of infection known as listeriosis each year, and 260 die from the disease, making it the third most-deadly form of food poisoning in the United States. The infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths and premature labor.
