Anupam Kher had earlier criticised the decision and said, "I personally feel that FTII represents a certain art form, FTII needs somebody who is much more qualified than whatever Ganjendraji's qualifications are coming across". "I will perform my duties to the best of my abilities", Kher tweeted in his response. I think we will work very hard.

It was surprising to see that despite the protests, the BJP government didn't sack Chauhan till March 2017.

Kher has previously held the post of the Chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and the National School of Drama (NSD). He will succeed former television actor Gajendra Chauhan.

A notification regarding Kher's appointment has been issued, Information and Broadcasting ministry officials said.

The 62-year-old critically acclaimed actor has over 500 films and plays to his credit, including global projects like Bend It Life Beckham and the Oscar-nominated Silver Linings Playbook.

In an interview to India TV, he had said, "I am a sycophant of Narendra Modi".

Davy Propper, Captain Arjen Robben, and Memphis Depay scored for the Dutch as they beat Belarus 3-1. With an attempt to claim the second spot in Group A the Netherlands team came to all guns blazing.

Besides being one of the busiest actors of the era - Kher has appeared in over 500 films - he was also extremely malleable.

Some of Kher's prominent films include Saaransh, Daddy, Lamhe, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Maine Gandhi Ko Nahi Maara, Khosla Ka Ghosla and A Wednesday.

In 2004, Kher had received Padma Shri and the Padma Bhushan in 2016.

Kher, who has appeared in acclaimed global films such as Silver Lining Playbook and Bend it Like Beckham, was the Director of National School of Drama from 2001-2004.

He also authored a book "The Best Thing About You Is You". He is quite experienced and runs his own (acting) institute (Actor Prepares) in Mumbai.

Will his new responsibility as FTII Chairman affect his film work? He is an alumnus of the National School of Drama (1978 batch).
