White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said the White House welcomes a "conversation" that both parties plan to have about banning bump stocks, indicating President Trump is open to the idea and wants to be part of the talks.

Senator Bob Corker, an influential Republican from Tennessee, had credited the president's top advisors, including Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis, and White House Chief of Staff John Kelly with helping to "separate our country from chaos".

When a reporter asked if it mean something other than military action, Trump replied "we'll see".

Tension between Trump and Tillerson resurfaced over the weekend when the secretary of state said during a trip to China that the USA was in direct communication with North Korea, which has ramped up its nuclear device and missile testing in recent months.
