LSU can feel good again after bounce-back win at Florida

09 October 2017

That bolding's mine. If Florida wants to play "I Won't Back Down" over its loudspeakers after the third quarter of every game, it seems pretty likely that people are going to start singing along.

The win gave LSU reason for hope, even with likely top-10-ranked Auburn coming to Tiger Stadium next week. That trio accounted for 105 of LSU's 216 rushing yards, while Derrius Guice and Darrell Williams pounded and grinded for a combined 85 on traditional plays.

"They're just trying to set the Gators up, right?" coach Jim McElwain said.

"We didn't fill the alley".

"That's life in the SEC", McElwain said.

The Tigers didn't waste time trying to disguise their game plan. Eddy Pineiro connected on the 25-yard field goal, 7-3.

LSU's second drive of the game had the same script but ended in a touchdown.

Southgate admits England must be better despite Slovenia win
England is now undefeated in qualifying with six wins and two draws, putting them five points ahead of second-placed Slovakia . The England manager added playing under Pep Guardiola at City would help Sterling's development even further.

Miami vs. Florida State: Miami was the favorite from all the pickers except Kirk Herbstreit to get a long-awaited win over their rivals. Freshman safety Shawn Davis stood flat-footed, watching the play unfold and not reacting until it was too late. Given the team's tumultuous week, it hardly was taunting.

"We got back to playing Tiger football", said Orgeron.

LSU stayed with their game plan in the second half.

The Tigers relied more on the hurry-up offense and sent playmakers in motion before the snap. The Rebels (2-3) endured their second straight blowout, a week after losing 66-3 to No. 1 Alabama and trailed 35-3 at halftime of this one before snapping a 10-quarter streak without a TD when Shea Patterson hit D.K. Metcalf for a 9-yard touchdown connection in the third quarter.

The skinny: Hammering Franks isn't fully warranted because Florida's receivers appeared to get owned by LSU's secondary.

"(It's) just really trying to mess with your head", Gardner said. The ground game is stellar, but until the passing game shows a pulse, it might not be enough for UF. Tigers fans needed this.

LSU returns to action on October 14 when the Tigers host No. 12 Auburn at Tiger Stadium.
