"GGG" and "Canelo" have seized the attention of the boxing world with this fight.
The two athlete's styles are almost complete opposites: Canelo is a crafty, fast and explosive counter puncher while GGG is an aggressive fighter willing to take a punch to land one, and is always looking for the finish.
Further to youth's effect in the ring, is the effect out of it. Canelo's upward momentum and hype has led to some excess favour from judges, notably against Austin Trout and Erislandy Lara.
"It's incredible to be in Las Vegas".
So, who wins? The answer is: we do - the fans who have been longing for two champions at the top of their game to risk everything and fight each other for the glory of being the best, without the need for trash talk, without intervention from promoters. One of the reasons why I have stuck with Alvarez is because I saw the job he did on Chavez Jr in May.
"Germany, the U.S., Sergio Martinez, Chavez Jr., Cotto, Sturm, Canelo", he said. The Guinness world record holder boasts the highest knockout percentage in middleweight history, now at 89.9%. Skills could favour a Canelo victory with the right game plan but the power lies with Golovkin.
That bout was off the back of an incredible 23-fight knockout victory streak for Golovkin which spanned back to 2008, giving GGG an edge in the form department. For a brutal example see GGG's knockout of Matthew Macklin on YouTube. He works behind his jab better than anyone else.
Weakened Hurricane Jose could become tropical storm today
As for intensity, the hurricane center is predicting a high-end Category 1 hurricane with 90-mph winds by Saturday. The National Hurricane Center forecast takes the storm's path out to five days.
"This is going to be something very special".
Golovkin's aggressive pressure fighting is the polar opposite of the only person to defeat Canelo professionally: Floyd Mayweather.
The Kazakhstani fighter has looked less than overwhelming in his last two outings. "It's a true fight". "He beats Canelo, he is the best".
And there was a big question mark over Golovkin against Daniel Jacobs last time.
At least Alvarez won't have to worry about Triple G coming at him on Saturday night in the unbeaten Kazakh's 20successive title fight.
He was persuaded to leave high school by coach Jose "Chepo" Reynoso, who first trained him at the age of 13 after Alvarez had been taunted over his flame-red hair which earned him the nickname Canelo (cinnamon).
Late into a decade which has featured alternate good and horrifically bad years in terms of big fights being made (and more importantly delivering), this is a fight that retains a very old school feel.
