Gurugram Murder Case: Investigation continues

13 September 2017

Gurugram police commissioner Sandeep Khirwar said, "We have sent a four-member team to Mumbai to quiz Ryan Pinto, the managind director and chairman of this group and other top officials". The victim's parents have asked for a probe by the CBI in this case and their petition was heard in the Supreme Court on the 11 of September, at 12:30 IST.

Amid protests over the police and state government's inaction against the school after the gruesome murder, Haryana education minister Ram Bilas Sharma had assured parents, on Sunday, that strict action will be taken against Ryan International authorities.

Augustine Pinto and his wife Grace, who is also the managing director of the institution had moved the Bombay High Court for anticipatory bail today. "She is likely to be arrested soon", Khirwar added. There is a lot more that we should demand from the school for the sake of our kid's safety, but we as parents should also do our bit to ensure the same. The CBSE said it has formed a committee to investigate the incident.

DGP Sulkhan Singh issued a directive to all the district police chiefs which stated that "concerned circle officers and beat personnel should do monthly security audit of schools in their area and prepare its report".

As a fallout, two school officials - including its northern India head Francis Thomas and human resource head Jeyus Thomas - were arrested and remanded in police custody till Tuesday.

The school's acting principal was suspended and the security staff removed.

According to reports with the help of forensic experts and witnesses and accused accounts, the police stated that "When the conductor walked into the washroom, two students of primary section, whose statements have been recorded in front of a magistrate, were changing their uniform". They named the schools after their son Ryan Pinto.

The DGP's directive spelt out measures like police verification of school staff, van drivers/conductors, checking unauthorised entry in schools and deployment of security at entry and exit gates.

The report by the investigative team also highlighted that the CCTV cameras of the school were neither working properly, nor installed everywhere. The proximity of the Pinto family to the BJP has led to accusations that the Haryana government was trying to shield the school's promoters in the case.
