Ousmane Dembele Provide Glorious Assist For Luis Suarez On Barcelona Debut

10 September 2017

Argentinean ace Lionel Messi shined as Barcelona destroyed rivals Espanyol 5-0, in the Catalan derby at Camp Nou.

Barca managed to rbag a fouth goal in the 87th minute as Gerard Pique found the back of the net with a thumping header. Further forward, Leo Baptistao was joined by Gerard Moreno and Pablo Piatti in a 4-3-3 formation, while summer signing from Real Madrid Mario Hermoso made his debut at centre-back.

Suarez was back in the Barcelona line-up after an injury scare while on global duty with Uruguay, but was not enjoying himself in front of goal as much as Messi, fluffing shot from a Gerard Deulofeu's cross before being denied by Pau early in the second period.

Messi then doubled Barcelona's tally before the break after an unfortunate deflection on Papa Bouba Diop's part landed into the path of Jordi Alba who squared a simple ball across the face of goal for the no 10's second.

Easy as can be, and Barca looks to be just fine.

Barcelona will be looking to take advantage of Real's slip-up when they host local rivals Espanyol later on Saturday, while Atletico Madrid visit Valencia. "Espanyol fought very well, but we have great players like Messi, who scored three goals, and Suarez, who gave everything like the rest of the team".

Barcelona made all the early running but suffered a scare in the 21st minute.

Zinedine Zidane was disappointed with his side's performance following their 1-1 La Liga draw with Levante.

The goalkeeper's best save came from a low-struck effort from Marcelo, who in frustration rolled to the floor, kicking Levante's Jefferson Lerma in the process and earning a straight red card in the 89th minute.

Bale missed a gilt-edged chance just before, while in injury time Toni Kroos came inches from a victor with an effort from the edge of the area which struck the outside of the far post.
