Aaron Donald ends holdout, still out Week 1 for Rams

10 September 2017

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Donald and the Rams have yet to agree to a new contract and will continue negotiations.

Los Angeles Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald has reported to the Rams' facility and has passed his physical according to Pro Football Talk.

Donald has no timetable to return to the field, but Los Angeles' front seven will welcome him back with open arms and eyes on the quarterback.

With his fast rise and status as the Rams' best defensive player, Donald was severely underpaid heading into the season, with two years left on his rookie contract.

No major protests had been planned against the French president. "We were, we are and we will be here", he said, underlining that this bond will continue to be strong.

Donald is among the top defensive players in the sport, recording 28 sacks in three seasons and earning a reputation as both an elite pass-rusher and run-stopper. The quicker Donald can line up against opposing linemen, the sooner Wade Phillips' 3-4 scheme can be truly implemented and reach its full potential in La La Land.

Donald will also be paid for Week 1; he would have forfeited his first game check had he not returned before Sunday's kickoff.

If the Rams can make some noise at home versus the Colts, even without Andrew Luck playing on the opposite side, they could be in great shape by the time Donald is able to suit up in the near future.

Tanzel Smart, a rookie sixth-round pick out of Tulane, is expected to start in Donald's place Sunday against the Colts.
