07 August 2017

During questioning, the three men confessed that they were working at the behest of LeT operative Wasim Shah and were tasked with hurling grenades at police establishments and snatching the weapons of the security men in Shopian, said the spokesman. Eight pilgrims lost their lives in the attack.

Three conspirators, who provided logistical support to Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists for carrying out the deadly attack on Amarnath Yatris, were arrested by Jammu and Kashmir police.

The disputed Kashmir region is divided into two parts: one administered by India and the other by Pakistan.

Three people - Bilal Ahmad Reshi, a shopkeeper, Aijaz Ahmad Wagay, a medical representative, and Zahoor Ahmad Sheikh, a driver - have been arrested in connection with the attack and produced before the court, Khan said.

Speaking to media, IGP said "I am happy to tell you that 3 accused persons have been arrested & they have completely revealed everything".

Cellular and mobile Internet services excluding Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), in north Kashmir's Baramulla district were Saturday suspended following the killing of three LeT militants in Sopore township of the district.

The third LeT slain militant has been identified as Danish Ahmad Dar s/o Ghulam Hassan Dar of Batpora Sopore, police said.

On July 10, there was yatri vehicle so they attacked it, had there been CRPF vehicle they would've attacked that, they had planned it, said the IGP.

It took the authorities three days to regain full control of the city and New Delhi has long said there is evidence that "official agencies" in Pakistan were involved in plotting the attack.

"The militants opened fire from where they were hiding on the joint search party, triggering an encounter which ended at dawn", Singh said. He said the trio had also provided shelter to the four militants in Khudwani and Sriguffwara in south Kashmir.

The terrorist had code word "Shaukat" for yatri vehicle and "Bilal" for CRPF vehicle. The attack evoked widespread condemnation across the Valley and outside.
