The Spotify App is Rumoured to be Coming to Xbox One

05 August 2017

Spotify for Xbox One is indeed coming soon and being tested internally at the moment. Pictures of Microsoft's Larry Hryb (Major Nelson) testing a Spotify app for Xbox One were spotted on Reddit earlier this week, fuelling speculation that a real Spotify Xbox app is on the way. However, it would appear that the deal has now lapsed.

Shortly after, fellow Reddit user GhostlyCrowd spotted a reference to Spotify on Xbox One on Microsoft's Retail Training portal, ExpertZone. And giving the timing and Xbox important presence in Cologne, it's a reasonable bet it will be revealed at Gamescom 2017.

A screenshot shows a post dated 23 June, saying: "This week, Microsoft announced huge news that impacts more than one of these devices".

U.S. to exempt journalists, aid workers from North Korea travel ban
Most recently, North Korea returned American citizen Otto Warmbier to the U.S.in a coma after more than a year of captivity. And he continued to push for Chinese help to keep pressure on North Korea due to their special economic relationship.

The Verge states that they have sources familiar with Spotify and Microsoft's plans who have confirmed that the app is now being tested internally.

Spotify first launched on consoles, back in 2015. Additionally, subscribers to Spotify premium can look forward to having high quality bit rates in their tracks, ensuring the best sounding music available to them while listening through the Xbox platform. A Spotify representative declined to comment on the leaks, and Microsoft offered the following (very teasy) statement: "We're always working on a number of new experiences for Xbox One owners, many times with great music playing in the background, but have nothing to announce today".
