Sheriff: Man killed missing son, 5, after Disneyland trip

According to Los Angeles County sheriff's officials, Andressian Sr.is suspected of murdering his 5-year-old son.

Aramazd Andressian Sr. remained in custody following his arrest in Las Vegas on Friday and is expected to be arraigned in Los Angeles later this week, L.A. County Sheriff's Department officials said at a news conference.

"The time was right to make the arrest".

In the past two months since the child disappeared, his father has been under surveillance as investigators gathered clues, authorities said at Monday's press conference.

An attorney for Andressian Sr., Daniel Nardoni of Pasadena, did not respond to several calls for comment.

Within a week of the boy's disappearance, police arrested his dad on suspicion of one count of child endangerment and one count of child abduction. Aramazd Andressian Jr. has been missing for more than two months despite an extensive search by investigators that reached from his hometown to Santa Barbara. She added she would not have authorized charges to be filed in the case if she wasn't confident a jury would convict the father. Andressian claimed he had no memory of what had happened but said he suspected he had been attacked after he took his son to the park the day he vanished.

"Investigators believe that this is a pre-planned event", he said. "We've had a chance to gather evidence", said Mendoza.

In a statement shared by the Sheriff's Department, Estevez thanked investigators and the community for all the concern they've shown for her son, who goes by the nickname "Piqui". Andressian Sr. remains adamant that he had nothing to do with the disappearance of his son.

"My heart is shattered and I will miss my son immensely each and every second of every day for the rest of my life", the boy's mother, Ana Estevez, said in a statement released by the sheriff's department. I'm counting the days until I see you again.

Andressian Sr., was found unconscious on April 22 near his vehicle, which was parked at the Arroyo Seco Park in South Pasadena.

The father told investigators he had taken his son to the park while they waited for a nearby golf course to open. Police have alleged that the inside of his auto was doused with gasoline and there were matches in his vehicle.

"I will continue to believe my son is alive until (he is) found", she said. The police had started by searching the park where the father was found with police dogs.

The Sheriff's Department has been mostly silent on the case since serving a search warrant at the home of Andressian Sr.'s mother almost a month ago. Detectives initially detained Andressian when his son went missing in April, but he was eventually released.

A massive search for the missing boy ensued in the following weeks, with officials and volunteers scouring every place the man and son were known to have visited, including the Arroyo Seco Park and the Lake Cachuma Recreation Area in Santa Barbara County.
