Anil Kumble was impeccable in his role as coach: Vinod Rai

26 June 2017

"Kumble role has been absolutely impeccable".

And if it's true he gave the team a tongue-lashing after the loss to Pakistan, it was timely.

The source confirmed the 46-year-old Kumble, who was put in charge last June, chose to step down after the breakdown of his relationship with Kohli.

And it's not just the laymen either.

The difference of opinions exists in everyone's life and even in cricket.

India's next tour is the limited-overs series against West Indies, which begins June 23 but the more pressing matter at hand will be the appointment of Kumble's successor. The Delhi dasher has publicly backed players such as Rohit Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin (his contemporaries and contenders for captaincy) and gone on record to say about their importance to the team and what they bring to the table.

He also revealed that on May 21, "when the Committee of Administrators (CoA) met Kumble in Hyderabad to hear out his proposal on player salaries and other mechanisms, he wanted to be put in place, everyone involved had a fair idea of the growing discord between him and Virat".

Sourav Ganguly said that to resign form Indian head coach by Anil Kumble was the anil kumble's personal choice.

Except that Kohli wasn't going to do anything of the sort.

First phase of Jewar airport gets government nod
Of the total land, 1,000 hectares will be acquired under the first phase of airport development, which will cost Rs 2,000 crore.

West Indies' Johnson Charles, right, bats as India's wicket keeper MS Dhoni looks on during the first Twenty20 worldwide cricket match, Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016, in Lauderhill, Fla. Both had their say on the dressing room disputes, leaving the meaty parts between the lines. "For us, that is paramount and very sacred". "... And something that I would not express in details in a public scenario".

Rai clarified that the extension in seeking applications for the coach's post was to get the "best" and have him with the team at least till the 2019 World Cup.

#3 - Kumble was strict to the players on and off the field during the Championship.

Asked if the dressing room culture had changed since the time Kumble left as captain, Ganguly said: "It's a tough question for me to answer". Some players also didn't take kindly to an approach that bordered on hectoring rather than persuasion. After that, they play in different countries and on various pitches. They will get added to to it. Few in the worldwide game have ever worked as hard as Kohli does, and his influence has spread within the group.

Former Sri Lanka coach Tom Moody and ex-batsman Virender Sehwag have already applied for the position with the deadline now extended until July 9. However, it looks like the coast is clear for Kohli-favorite Ravi Shastri to make a comeback as coach.

Now post this, another source from the cricket fraternity unveiled that there are some reasons that roped in clashes between Indian players and Kumble. But having committed to such an utterly meaningless exercise, the least India could have done is use it as an opportunity to blood new talent. But if Kohli is more anxious about having things his own way than finding a way to work together and win matches, India will continue to produce inconsistent results. Similarly, second-rung spin options could have been played, with Ravinchadran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja rested altogether. Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav have made excellent starts to their worldwide careers, and India badly need to bring wrist spinners into play on surfaces that offer nothing for the traditional finger spinners.

Perhaps it's a blessing for everyone else - with the weight of player numbers and resources they have at their disposal, it would be game over for the rest if India could form a tight-knit side. More explosive hitters like Pant are also needed, especially with no certainty over how long Dhoni and Yuvraj can go on.

"The advisory committee are adept at getting the right man but they would certainly have the Kumble episode at the back of their mind while selecting the new coach", a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official told AFP on condition of anonymity.
