North Korean mock-up birthday video shows missiles blowing up US

The paper, obtained by The Associated Press, says the North's latest actions "make clear that further global pressure is required for the DPRK to change its behavior if there is to be any hope for meaningful denuclearization talks to resume". "American officials did make some positive and constructive remarks, such as using whatever peaceful means possible to resolve the (Korean) Peninsula nuclear issue".

North Korea appears to strike the United States with a devastating missile launch in a video mock-up aired during a musical show to mark former leader Kim II Sung's 105th birthday.

North Korean Vice Foreign Minister Han Song-ryol ratcheted up the rhetoric in an interview with the BBC.

Statements of that vein do not help the situation, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman. The North conducted two nuclear tests and 24 ballistic missile tests last year, defying six Security Council sanctions resolutions banning any testing, and it has conducted additional missile tests this year including one this past weekend that failed.

But the vice president said he is encouraged and believes North Korea is listening to the Trump administration's concerns.

Earlier this year, China called on the U.S. and North Korea to give up something to ease tensions on the Korean Peninsula.

Mr Pence's comments come after a senior North Korean official warned that the regime had no intention of dialling down its missile programme, pledging weekly tests and threatening "all-out war" if the USA took any action against it.

More charges filed in Detroit in genital mutilation probe
The FGM investigation at Burhani Medical Clinic has identified two young girls from Minnesota who have been operated on by Dr. She is not accused of performing any genital mutilation at the hospital, but rather at a clinic in Livonia owned by Attar.

Lu said Beijing wants to resume the multi-party negotiations that ended in stalemate in 2009 and suggested that USA plans to deploy a missile defense system in South Korea were damaging its relations with China.

The US military is considering shooting down the missile tests to pressure North Korea into denuclearisation, particularly if Pyongyang goes forward with a sixth nuclear test.

It would also demand an immediate end to the North's nuclear and missile tests, threaten to take "further significant measures" - United Nations code for new sanctions - and state that North Korea's illegal activities "are greatly increasing tension in the region and beyond".

North and South Korea are technically still at war because their 1950-53 conflict ended in a truce, not a peace treaty.

The Pentagon has also dispatched the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson strike group to the Korean Peninsula.

"China's position on opposing a nuclear-capable (North Korea) is firm, clear and consistent", Lu said.
